Boy Scouts of America
"Teaching Leave No Trace"
Manual Options

"Spring is nature's way of saying "Let's party!"."
-- Robin Williams

Through the last several years several versions of "Teaching Leave No Trace" have become available.  Each version has the same content but  is provided in different formats that meet different needs.  Listed below are the options currently available for use within the Boy Scouts of America along with a short history to clarify why that specific version was provided.

Please note the value that is added by each person as they work to distribute this free resource in as many different formats as necessary to reach as many people as possible.

The original "Teaching Leave No Trace" version (1.84 MB)  prepared for Boy Scouts was written by ROAR Executive Director Donald Gale and others.  This version is in black and white with clip art.  The purpose was to create a resource that was easily copied without distortion of photos or greyscale art.  This is the best option to email as it is the smallest file and has no distortion of illustrations when copied.

The color version of "Teaching Leave No Trace" (45.6 MB) was provided by the Boy Scouts of America national office which used the manual listed above and formated it into a professional publication.  The BSA distributed the manual free for some time but it is no longer widely available.  This is a PDF of the manual that can be downloaded and printed.  This version is great for personal use but does not email well because of size.

Howard Kerns provided a black and white version of the BSA "Teaching Leave No Trace" (13.0 MB) manual listed above.  Some people find it too large to send and recieve by email.

Clark Sexton used the version provided by Howard to create three PDF files that are easily emailed.  Because it uses greyscale instead of line art it will not copy as well as the original.
       Pages 1 to 34 (4.00 MB)
       Pages 35 to 67 (4.11 MB)
       Pages 68 to 99 (3.51 MB)

The online BSA version of "Teaching Leave No Trace" contains links throughout the publicaiton to easily navigate from topic to topic.  It is very easy to use online but does not print well.
